COMMUNITIES

Through the Institute for Freedom, Johann Gevers consults to communities and governments that are evolving their governance systems to better serve their members and citizens.

Johann grew up in South Africa during the apartheid era. The deep social problems and injustices he witnessed sparked a lifelong interest in developing governance systems for a free, just, and prosperous society—a society that works for everyone. This interest led to further studies in politics, economics, and law, and more than twenty years of experimentation with new concepts for a free society.

Gradually a solution began to take shape, and Johann founded the Institute for Freedom to advance this important work. The Institute is developing a new constitution for a free society. The constitution is based on the insight that individual sovereignty forms the essential basis of community and civil society. The particular form of individual sovereignty defined in this constitution is the universal essence and sine qua non of freedom—hence it has been named The Freedom Universal.
